SONAGAS GE PROMOTES CHESS AND CULTURAL UNION IN EQUATORIAL GUINEA

On March 16, the National Chess Federation of Equatorial Guinea, in collaboration with the German Embassy in Yaoundé and Lufthansa, I welcome with great the closing ceremony and awards ceremony of the "Chess Without Borders" tournament was a success at the Imagine Restaurant in Malabo. At this event, the National Gas Society of Equatorial Guinea (SONAGAS GE) reaffirmed its firm commitment to development social and sporting heritage of the country by taking part in this prestigious tournament that promotes the chess as a tool for personal growth and international unity.
The event brought together national and international players in a healthy environment competition and camaraderie. During the day, participants demonstrated their talent in two categories: youth and adults. In the youth category, the podium was dominated by young chess promises, while in the adult category, players experienced players faced each other until the champion was decided. In addition, the tournament highlighted the role of women in chess, recognizing the best players in each category.
The recognition ceremony was marked by speeches of thanks and recognition: Pedro Nguema Ebile, president of the federation, expressed his gratitude to the German Embassy, Lufthansa and all the organizers and players who made the event possible. The Acting Vice President of the Olympic Committee of Equatorial Guinea highlighted the importance of having more sponsors to continue promoting this type of initiatives, while Firmin Mousavou, General Manager of Lufthansa Equatorial Guinea reaffirmed the company's commitment to development of chess in Equatorial Guinea.
Paul Sonntag, representative of the German Embassy in Yaoundé, highlighted the Diversity of participants, representing different countries. Judith Asangono Micha, Director General of Sports, congratulated the federation for its dynamism and reaffirmed the government's support for the growth of chess in the country.
Among the prominent attendees were representatives of SONAGAS GE, Maribel Nsing Ela Ada and Feliciano Ntugu Obono, who witnessed the competition and participated in the awards ceremony. SONAGAS GE congratulated the winners and reiterated its support for future initiatives that promote local talent and strengthen the prestige of Equatorial Guinea in the sports field.
One of the most special moments of the day was the surprise prepared by the German Embassy and the Emanuel Lasker Society, in honor of the legacy of the only German chess champion. As part of this recognition, the federation received a valuable donation of chess equipment to continue promoting the sport in the "Chess Without Borders" tournament was not only a high-level competition, but also a space for international meeting and collaboration. The federation, together with its allies, reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting chess in Guinea Equatorial and provide more opportunities to new generations of players.
With the success of this edition, SONAGAS GE reaffirms its role as a strategic ally in the development of sport in Equatorial Guinea, betting on chess as a discipline that encourages critical thinking and excellence.
